Overview

Our private Krampus run tour from Salzburg takes you to one of the village runs held between late November and 6 December. Krampus is the horned companion of St Nicholas, and on these nights the local clubs walk the streets in hand-carved wooden masks, fur suits and cow bells. It is a tradition, not a show, and it is loud, dark and close. Your driver-guide picks the right run for your date, explains what you are looking at and gets you out before the traffic does.

The clubs publish their dates in autumn. Tell us your dates and we tell you which run falls on them before you pay anything.
Some runs charge a small entrance fee, paid on the spot. Food and drinks are your own.
You stand outside in the cold for up to two hours: warm boots, hat and gloves.
Advisor tip: Krampus figures do swat legs with their switches, mostly among the teenagers at the front. We stand you behind the barrier, which is where you want to be with a camera anyway.

When are the Krampus runs near Salzburg?

Between late November and 6 December, most of them on the evenings around 5 December, which is Krampus night. Each village has its own date. We match the run to the days you are in Salzburg.

Is a Krampus run safe?

Yes, if you stand in the right place. The runs are organised by registered clubs with barriers and stewards. It is crowded and noisy, and the front row gets the switches. We keep you just behind it.

How much does the Krampus run tour cost?

€520 per private vehicle for up to 6 guests, about 4 hours, with hotel pickup and your driver-guide included.

Can we combine it with the Christmas markets?

Yes. Many guests spend the afternoon at the Old Town market and leave with us from there. For a full day of markets plus the run, ask us for one price for both.

Can we cancel?

Full refund up to 72 hours before the tour, 50% refund between 72 and 24 hours, no refund inside 24 hours. If a run is called off for weather, you get a full refund or another evening.
